Okay, I no longer recommend this blog.It's an activism site against animal cruelty. Specifically horses.
The story is about how a Chihuahua attacks a horse at a trail and then a "pit bull" --
forgive me for being skeptic, but most pits wont even approach being "large dogs" --joins in.
So now, the site advocates that all pit bulls and their mixes should be exterminated.
In the meantime, there's disableist (against people with disabilities) wording and remarks. Sexist wording. Racist wording (specifically against Hispanics/Any Latins) and remarks. Perpetrating urban myths... And even a whole lot of hypocritical/circular/trollish "arguing".
Saying that all pit bulls are time bombs that might go off at any moment? That they are solely bred for dog fighting and that "Latins" are the ones responsible for this "menace".
Laughing at a mother of a retarded child who requests that people will not use her child's condition as an insult. Apparently the mother was being too politically correct. Even as she suggested that use "idiot" and its synonyms instead because that was what the poster meant. (Seriously, can people not see the problem in this: A disabled person meets enough prejudice and obstacles in their life without having their existence being used as an insult!)
Despite what you might think, gendered insults
are sexist. And in these comments we have a prominent one:
skank

It plays into the stereotype (the comments even say that stereotypes exists because they're true! So all those girls that faint instead of doing something... all those ANGRY Black Bitches... And so on) that women are only worth something if they look good. And you know, calling a pit bull owner a skank because she's a woman that owns a pit bull is kind of... *too angry to finish*
The urban myth that pit bulls have "locking jaws" even though there is NO FUCKING DOG OR EVEN CANINE THAT HAVE LOCKING JAWS! Do they LOOK related to
CROCODILES to YOU?!
The trollish parts of these arguments is that the people against destroying an entire breed is called "Pit Bull Apologists", "Too young to know better", "Inexperienced" and other personal attacks.
Yet somehow, they need to use racism, sexism, disableism, urban myths, stereotypes and sensationalist media to get their points across.
And they wonder why other activist groups are leery about animal activism.
Seriously, is there no way for them to argue for the well-being of animals without stunts like
the ones PETA are doing.
Don't they realise that by going against other minorities, they are effectively cutting down on the argument why "their" minority should get special treatment. Don't they realise that they could work together with these people instead of against them?
You can argue against irresponsible dog owners without using insults that automatically insult disabled/coloured/female people. Hell, you can even argue against dog breeds.
Words like "skank",
"hysteria", "retard" [as an insult]... they all internalises discrimination. Can we stop using them in arguments that is supposed to bring about something better. Please?
